PROJECT NO. 14

The Bighorn Basin Paleontological Institute is a proud nonprofit organization that is wholeheartedly dedicated to paleontology and earth science research, education and outreach. They harness the universal appeal of dinosaurs and paleontology to engage people of all interest levels and backgrounds to promote the earth and natural sciences.

When COVID-19 began to when I am currently writing this, so many great businesses have been impacted; especially many irreplaceable nonprofit organizations. It was so upsetting to me as I watched it unfold, so I felt it was my duty to pay it forward and help out some amazing small businesses in my area, so I began to search around and eventually encountered the Bighorn Basin Paleontological Institute [BBPI] – an excellent nonprofit organization that prides itself on teaching dino-enthusiasts of any age about earth science in many interesting ways.

This project was kicked off by first altering BBPI’s original branding, updating its logo, fonts, colors and adding in some punchy graphical elements. Some vibrant and bold colors were also pulled into the mix since their team loves to simultaneously have a good time while also being educational! These bright colors reflect their playful vibe, mixed with a strong, solid navy color which brings it into a more educational realm.

BBPI’s merchandise was also rebranded and brought up-to-par with the rest of the look and feel of the new branding. By allowing the photography to shine on the geode vector assets, BBPI’s designs truly stand out among all others. Letterhead designs, business cards, and other printed media were all included.

BBPI always takes such amazing photography in-house; so in an effort to make these images pop as much as possible, they became a starring design asset. By clipping the subject matter out and layering it on top of a geode-shaped flood of background color, BBPI’s photography can really shine.
